Palencia Province

South western Palencia is known as the Valleys of Cerrato. Towns such as Villamuriel de Cerrato, close to the Palencian capital were, in medieval times, home to the bishops of Palencia.

Palencia Capital City

The main part of Palencia evolved on the left bank of the River Carrión and the medieval nucleus is polarised around two principal monuments; the cathedral and the church of San Miguel.
